Boiled Eggs

Paul Bowers

A cracked egg boiled
pushes a mussel foot

from its oval
as if to get a grip on coral.

Clouds of white bloom
an elegant oleander in water.

I forgot the sequence:
eggs first in the pan, then water,

knowing full well eggs dropped
in anything fracture and ooze.

Still, to admire the ovum’s blossom,
to love this hen’s flower.
